Fairlawn Mansion and Museum
Superior, WI 54880
This Victorian-style mansion and museum features 42 rooms and is said to be haunted by a spirit who is often mistaken for the museum guide. The ghost is dressed in period clothing like the real guides are, but people feel a cold chill when she is near. The spirit is believed to be that of a former servant girl who was murdered by her husband. Historians say the mansion was once an orphanage, which may be why many witnesses have claimed to see and hear the sounds of ghostly children near the swimming pool in the basement.

Regardless if you believe or not (and not having access to the basement swimming pool ??), or are completely inept to energy frequency evaluation -as if there is a word for this- there is most definitely a ‘vibe’ coming off of just-completed tourers … as you wait in line as a group. It is not a gotcha-walk where you’ll be jump scared. It is not a Saw/overly gory/obscenely “scary” halloween horror night installation/opportunity. The Martin Pattinson house is a great seasonal experience in a beautifully restored, 100% haunted (particularly certain rooms), 75% overbooked (there can only be so many tours in a night of course) venue that should on the radar of any psych fan

In reply to the clock, the door does not latch due to age so a piece of tape is usually put there. Now we have some putty we put on it to keep it from coming open.
But we have had some paranormal activity in the house, but nothing dark or sinister. Fairlawn is and has been a well loved home and we are sure spirits still wander the halls.

I went to this mansion several years ago, and the experience has stuck with me ever sense. I remember from the moment we walked into the lower level, waiting for everyone in the tour to gather, I immediately started feeling extremely light headed and a heaviness surrounded me. It lasted and worsened throughout the entire tour, making it extremely hard to focus and at times, forcing me to sit down if I saw a bench in the hallway. However, the most intense feeling was in the nursery room (when it was an orphanage), we were all standing in a circle as the guide was explaining this room, I have never experienced a feeling before like I did in that room. My chest got heavy, my light-headedness got more intense and all of a sudden, a wave came over me and it took everything I had in me to not start bawling my eyes out. I can't explain why, I have tried to research that room to see if there is anything tragic that may have happened in there, which I am sure there has been many, unfortunately. I was roughly about 20 weeks pregnant at the time, however I was not a hormonal, emotional pregnant person by any means. As soon as we left that room, the urge to cry was gone completely, now just back to the same light headed, heavy feeling. We continued the tour, and after it was over, my husband and I walked outside back to the parking lot, as soon as I walked out and got into the parking lot, all light-headedness was completely gone and I felt perfectly fine. It was the strangest feeling. I have never been back, since I live about 4-5 hours away, however I will be back in that area this weekend and I am very excited to go back, just to see if I have that same feeling again.

A beautiful mansion! 100% worth the tour on a pure historical level! As far as supernatural occurrences go, the most overt has to be the grandfather clock on the first floor landing. The door has a habit of opening and closing all by itself. As the visitors and staff are under strict rules to not touch anything, the habits of this clock are baffling beyond belief! Its more typical that it opens by itself. But it has indeed opened by itself and then closed itself again before. So strange!
